Environmental Science International Named SBA 2008 Region IX Prime Contractor of the Year

Environmental Science International, Inc. [ESI], a small business based in Kailua, Hawaii, has been selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration [SBA] as the 2008 Region IX Prime Contractor of the Year. This award honors small businesses that have provided the federal government with outstanding goods and services as prime contractors. SBA Region IX includes Hawaii, California, Arizona, Nevada, and Guam.

In the award notification letter, Mr. Steven C. Preston, Administrator of the SBA stated that “Your hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to your community have made you a success in your business. The U.S. Small Business Administration [SBA] is pleased to be able to recognize you for these achievements.” ESI was nominated for the award by the Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific (NAVFAC Pacific). In the nomination letter, NAVFAC Pacific stated that “ESI has proven to be an invaluable member of the NAVFAC Pacific organization, Their efforts both within the State of Hawaii and across the Pacific Rim have demonstrated their professional ability and continued outstanding support of the U.S. Navy.”

As a Regional Prime Contractor of the Year, ESI has been invited to represent Hawaii and Region IX during the National Small Business Week to be held in Washington D.C., April 21-23, 2008. Mr. Ernest Shih, President of ESI, and Ms. Kristine Saboda, Senior Project Scientist and QA/QC Manager of the Navy Program for ESI, will travel to Washington D.C. to accept the award.

ESI is a full-service environmental consulting and remediation firm specializing in environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, and management. ESI is a certified Small Disadvantaged Business participating in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) development program. The company was incorporated in Hawaii in October 2001 and is headquartered in Kailua, Hawaii. ESI also operates from affiliate offices in Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan. ESI clients include all branches of the United States military, major oil companies, multinational corporations, banks, local government, developers, and other consulting and engineering groups. ESI is a management-owned firm that maintains strong client relationships through the quality performance of staff and complete involvement of senior-level principals. The principals in the firm have over 40 years combined experience in environmental consultation and engineering. The staff includes professional geologist, registered engineers, chemists, environmental scientist, and natural resource managers. The majority of the ESI professional staff have advanced degrees.
