Chemist (Full-Time Salaried)
Mid-level position, salary based on applicant qualifications and experience.
Overview:
The Chemist provides high-level evaluations of analytical data for environmental samples received from commercial laboratories. Provides technical support to project managers in managing and evaluating chemical data. Possesses a high-level knowledge of general chemistry and environmental chemistry and can analyze and interpret analytical data.
A successful candidate must be able to perform the physical and mental demands of:

Determining the appropriate analytical methods, sample preparation method, and the appropriate analytical laboratory required to meet project objectives.

Assisting with identifying the contaminants of potential concern for environmental site investigations.

Researching and evaluating new laboratory and field analytical methods to meet regulatory and project objectives.

Manage subcontracts and interactions with commercial laboratories for project-specific tasks.
-
Perform project tasks in accordance with all applicable environmental and other relevant rules and regulations.

Assist with preparing project plans, task assignments, technical reports, correspondence, and project reports.
ESI scientists, project managers and engineers work together as a team in a wide range of environmental projects.
Minimum Requirements:
Education.
-
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely aligned field of study.
Job Experience:
-
2+ years of experience in environmental consulting or closely aligned experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work with minimal supervision.
-
Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Some travel off-island (sometimes overnight) as needed. Working conditions can be outdoors in variable weather conditions, in rough terrain, working with hazardous substances, in confined spaces, or in remote areas.

Knowledge of OSHA safe work practices.

Good decision-making, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Desired Experience, but not required:
-
Knowledge of soil, groundwater, petroleum products, ambient air, soil vapor, and other media, sample collection, and analysis.

Knowledge of field sampling equipment (e.g., PID, LEL, XRF, oil/water interface probe, water meter), equipment operation and maintenance (i.e., decontaminate, calibrate, charge, safe storage), and can provide training to field staff.

Familiarity with US EPA Standard Methods and Quality Assurance protocols.

Environmental Scientist II (Full-Time Salaried)
Mid-level position, salary based on applicant qualifications and experience.
Overview:The Environmental Scientist II will perform various project activities, report writing, research and field responsibilities. Duties include the planning, execution and evaluation of activities related to inspections, due diligence surveys, oversight of remedial and construction excavations, soil and groundwater sampling, free product recovery, underground storage tank investigations, and remedial system oversight. sample collection, environmental review and inspection, and permit applications, In addition, maintaining adherence to various environmental regulations and guidance, remedial designs, and restoration plans at commercial, private, and DoD sites is required.
ESI scientists, project managers and engineers work together as a team in a wide range of environmental projects.
Minimum Requirements:
Education.
• BS/BA or equivalent degree in geology, chemistry, oceanography, environmental science, engineering, or a closely aligned field of study.
•Science or engineering background required.
Job Experience:
•2 to 5 or more years of general environmental consulting experience preferred (e.g., regulatory, Phase I environmental site assessments, USTs, SPCC plans, solid and hazardous waste.
•Significant field experience (e.g., soil, groundwater, soil vapor), regulatory knowledge (e.g., DOH TGM, Hawaii ERL).
•Strong technical writing and computer skills.
•Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work with minimal supervision.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
•Able to lift, push, pull, and carry at least 50 pounds, work remotely, and travel off-island (sometimes overnight) as needed.
•Working conditions can be outdoors in variable weather conditions, in rough terrain and working with hazardous substances, in confined spaces or in remote areas.
•Knowledge of OSHA safe work practices.
•Knowledge of operating and maintaining field and industrial equipment.
•Good decision-making, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Desired experience, but not required:
• Federal CERCLA experience is highly desirable (e.g., RI, FS, long-term monitoring, and preparation of plans and reports).
